Dear Colleagues,<br>
Some of your undergrads who are preparing to take the GREs may be
interested to know that a fee waiver is available for qualifying
students.<br>
<br>
Here is the information I received from the UCSB Financial Aid Office <br>
<ul>
<li>Students may apply for a waiver at the front desk of the
Financial Aid Office, where they will be asked to complete a brief form.</li>
<li>Once the form is submitted to UCSB FinAid, the turn around can be
from <b>2-8 weeks</b>. According to the ETS website, a <b>minimum </b>of
two months is required. <br>
<br>
</li>
<li>Students must meet the following minimum criteria:</li>
<ul>
<li>US citizenship</li>
<li>Current FAFSA on file</li>
<li>FAFSA shows Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is less
than $1600.00<br>
<br>
</li>
</ul>
<li>Alumni may apply for a waiver also, but will need to have filed a
FAFSA. They can do that online at <i><a
class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="http://www.fafsa.ed.gov">www.fafsa.ed.gov</a></i></li>
<li>Once the waiver has been approved, the FinAid Office will issue a
voucher to students</li>
<li>Only one waiver will be granted (if a student wants to re-take an
exam, he/she will have to bear the cost of subsequent exams).<br>
</li>
<li>Students who already hold a MA or PhD do not qualify.<br>
</li>
<li>Urge your students to apply early! It is not clear how many
waivers are available, but the ETS website states: "A limited number of
waivers are available per test date and per institution. Funds may be
exhausted prior to the closing date for the administration you
requested."</li>
<li>For more information, students should contact the Financial Aid
Office
directly: 893-2432 (to skip the long recorded message, press '5').<br>
</li>
