excitement that I write this letter to
the many distinguished faculty teaching psychology in <st1:place
w:st="on">Southern California</st1:place>. I am writing to request
that you encourage your
undergraduate researchers to apply for the annual UCLA Psychology
Undergraduate
Research Conference (PURC). <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><span
style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">2007 marks the 16<sup>th</sup>
year that the UCLA
Department of Psychology has continued this tradition. This year, the
event
will take place on Friday, May 11<sup>th</sup> from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00
p.m. on
the UCLA campus. We will be hosting poster sessions, paper sessions,
and a
dinner certificate ceremony. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><span
style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">We are looking for a
diverse representation of <st1:place w:st="on">Southern California</st1:place>
campuses and we would like to see
more applicants from UCSB. Although we expect high quality projects, we
are
flexible about accepting students who are at different stages in the
research
process. We do not require that the research be original. This means
you can
encourage both your independent researchers and students who are
assisting you
with your research efforts. However, students must have contributed
significantly to the research that they present and they must prepare
their
materials according to APA standards. Projects can be represented by
individuals or teams with up to three students. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Verdana" size="2"><span
style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">To apply, students must
submit the application, an APA
abstract, and the application fee by Friday, March 2<sup>nd</sup>,
2007. The
