Psychology and Biopsychology majors graduating in Spring,

The Psychology Department is seeking self-nominations for the Philip
Steven Rethis Memorial Award. This award was established in memory of
Philip Steven Rethis who was awarded a Posthumous Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Psychology in June 1997. Philip overcame severe disability and
illness to pursue his studies and worked actively in the Psychology
Department’s undergraduate and research programs.

The annual award is given to a graduating Psychology or Biopsychology
senior who has overcome hardships in order to complete his or her
degree. The criteria as stipulated by the fund are “character”,
“determination” and “scholarship”. A previous recipient of this award
was chosen on the basis that he had come from a family of 13 and had to
support himself throughout his college career. He was forced to drop out
of school several times and worked 40 plus hours a week while in school.

If you are a graduating Psychology or Biopsychology major and would like
to nominate yourself for this award please submit a formal letter of
nomination to my office in Psychology-East 1810 by Friday March 23rd at
4pm.

Thank you,
Catherine McConney
