Hi Catherine - can you post this for the undergrads? Thanks - Angela

Hello Undergrads

I have a cool new announcement! The Library is moving to a new proxy
server. The proxy is great for people who live off campus or are
traveling. It allows you to have access to library resources just as
if you were on campus. So if you're going home for summer break and
you want to do some research in PsycInfo, just sign in through the
proxy and you can!

Also, for those of you using the old proxy, please undo the old
set-up. If you have any questions about this, email or call me. My
contact info is at the bottom of the email. Thanks! Angela

Over the next two weeks, we will transition to a new proxy server. The
old service will be retired on Monday, May 14.

Why are we changing proxy servers?

The new proxy server offers great advantages over the old one.

1. It requires no set up on the part of the user. You can freely change
browsers and computers without losing access to the proxy server. There
will also be fewer frustrations with pop-up blockers, etc.

2. This proxy server adds greater security for your ID and password
information that was not possible with the old server.

What do you need to do?

If you used the previous proxy server, you will need to undo the old
set-up before using the new server for the first time. Follow the
instructions for your browser at http://www.library.ucsb.edu/help/proxy/winormac.html.

Using this proxy server is easy – you can either click on the
“off-campus log-in” link on the library home page, or direct your
browser to http://proxy.library.ucsb.edu:2048.

You might want to read our help pages at http://www.library.ucsb.edu/help/proxy/
to understand how the new server works. There are some great features
that you might find useful.
