<p class="MsoNormal"><b><i>Psych 163AE</i> <br>
<i>Biological interventions in the treatment
of psychological Illness</i><o:p></o:p></b><br>
This co-listed graduate/undergraduate course will
familiarize students with the history, use and effectiveness of
biologically-based clinical interventions intended to alleviate
the&nbsp;suffering&nbsp;produced by psychological illness. As a seminar course,
students will be expected to contribute to class discussions, complete
all
assigned readings, prepare and deliver classroom presentation(s), and
research/compose a paper on a topic of their choosing.&nbsp;&nbsp;Discussions
will likely include such diverse topics as psychosurgery,
electroconvulsive&nbsp;shock therapy, insulin/coma therapy, and of course a
myriad
of different psychopharmaceuticals&nbsp;developed for the treatment of
specific
behavior disorders.&nbsp; <br>
