The field of Underserved Medicine is concerned with populations that experience substantial barriers to care. In the Underserved Medicine Course we will focus on the health care of populations such as Veterans, Prisoners, Homeless, the mentally ill, Victms of torture and the poor. Each class will combine presentations by guest speakers with presentations by students.
Dr Noemi "Mimi" Doohan is a Stanford trained physician who is board certified in family medicine and has a PhD in molecular Biology from UCSB. She is the co-founder of the local non-profit Doctors Without Walls: providing volunteer medical care to the homeless and most vulnerable where and when they are in need.
