the Pacific
Outer Continental Shelf Region (POCSR), the Office of Environmental

student intern to assist with updating of a
biological </span><span
style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Times New Roman";">database</span><span
style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Times New Roman";"> for the
Environmental Studies

intern’s primary duties will be to (1) search the literature
(scientific
journals, technical reports, theses, and other published and
unpublished works)
for information on length-weight regressions of marine fishes found off
California, (2) construct a table with the relevant parameters, (3)
link this
table into an already established MS Access database of fish species
and densities,
in order to facilitate biomass calculations, and (4) interact with
researchers
from other MMS-funded projects to develop database product that best
suits the
information needs of the MMS. It is expected that most of the work will
be
conducted at the UCSB campus, with approximately one to three visits to
the MMS
Office in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Camarillo</st1:place></st1:City>.

analyses may be assigned based

style="font-family: "Times New Roman";">: The Minerals Management
Service (MMS) is
the Federal agency responsible for managing the Nation's mineral
resources
offshore the <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">United
States</st1:place></st1:country-region>
and for collecting and disbursing the revenues from the production of
all mineral
resources on Federal lands, offshore and onshore.<span style=""> </span>Regional
offices, of which we are one, handle
the day</span><span style="">‑</span><span
style="font-family: "Times New Roman";">to</span><span style="">‑</span><span
style="font-family: "Times New Roman";">day administration of the MMS
program for Federal offshore lands, commonly referred to as the Outer
Continental Shelf (OCS).<span style=""> </span>The MMS
conducts environmental studies on the potential and real effects of
offshore
mineral development, issues offshore mineral leases to companies, and
regulates
the operations conducted under MMS permits on the OCS to ensure that
the
environment is safeguarded and that the minerals are extracted in a
sound
manner. The Pacific OCS Region is responsible for the safe and orderly
development of offshore oil and gas resources from the Outer
Continental Shelf
while understanding and protecting the human, marine, and coastal
