Paid Internships -- Statewide Sustainability Conference
Timing: early January -- August 15th, 2008
Hrs: 10-15hrs per week
Location: Mostly UCSB with some optional travel to San Luis Obispo

The UC, CSU, CCC Seventh Annual Statewide Sustainability Conference is
coming up and looking for some motivated students to lead the organizing
of this year's conference. Last year there were over 850 participants
from over 60 California campuses, in addition to businesses, government,
and community. Conference topics include sustainability in the area of
green buildings, energy, institutionalizing sustainability, curriculum
and research, food systems, waste management, student affairs,
procurement, transportation, and water. To bring the ideals of our
conference into practice we served over 80% organic food, offset all the
conference's energy use, offered scholarships to everyone who needed
one, placed Braille signage on all conference rooms, and more.
Intern tasks would include:
Outreaching to sustainable businesses to exhibit and sponsor at the
conference Fundraising Volunteer coordination Publicity and Marketing of
the Conference Working with the steering committee and speakers for the
conference Writing website content Researching ways to make the
conference green and socially responsible and ensuring the best
practices available are implemented Documenting how the conference is
organized
We are looking for a team of interns who are motivated, professional,
have an ability to learn quickly and work independently as well as in a
group, can multitask well, lives their values, and demonstrates
leadership skills. We also value applicants who have a dedication to
social, economic, and environmental sustainability. Previous experience
with sustainability efforts not required.
Internships will be geared towards the goals of the students accepted.
For example, if you want to learn professional communication skills and
donor relations, we can gear your internship towards the fundraising
aspect of the conference. We encourage applicants to come in with an
idea of their own personal development goals.
The position will be open until filled and we are looking for someone
who can start early January and work through August 15th.
