Summary of Job Duties
Under general supervision, provides field and laboratory support for a long-term
study investigating the performance of an artificial reef used to mitigate the
loss of kelp forest habitat caused by the operation of the San Onofre Nuclear
Generating Station.
Minimum Requirements 	College training in biology or ecology, research SCUBA
certification with
extensive diving experience. Knowledge of the natural history and identification
of the common algae, invertebrates and fish inhabiting southern California kelp
forests. Ability to follow protocols with attention to details. Experience
towing, launching, and navigating (using differential GPS) small (~22')
research boats. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with experience in the use of
shop tools. Familiar with the use of common laboratory equipment and protocols,
including microscopes, dissection, and the preservation of biological samples.
Experience working with PC computers and large relational datasets.

Special Conditions of Employment
*Maintain a valid CA driver's license and a clean DMV record
*Satisfactory completion of a fingerprint background check
*Research SCUBA certification, 60ft minimum.
*Able to lift heavy objects and endure the physical demands of an ambitious
diving schedule.
*Nitrox scuba certified
*Basic boating certificate from the California Department of
Boating and Waterways, or an equivalent certification.
