Need overall non-major units to fulfill some remaining graduation
requirements?
EEMB40: ECOLOGY OF DISEASE Instructor: John Latto, Summer Session Period B
Satisfies area C of the GE requirements or overall units needed for
graduation
This class is specifically designed to use the inherent interest that
many people have in human health and disease to illustrate the tools and
methodologies of both ecology and epidemiology. We will cover a broad
range of disciplines from history to human health but the underlying
theme will be the use of the scientific principles of ecology and
epidemiology to study changes in the distribution and abundance of
diseases. These changes will be examined both using historical examples
and also by examining current disease patterns and predicting changes.
Student comments from the winter 2008 class:
/'Honestly one of the best courses I have taken in 3 years at UCSB.'
'Never had a course so well rounded.'
'This class was exceptional. Plain and simple. The information and
instruction were compelling and managed to attain that perfect mix of
levity and informativeness that is so elusive to most professors. Bravo
on a truly excellent course.'
