CLAS helps registered UCSB students master course material through
course specific instructional groups, one-to-one appointments, drop-in
services and academic skills development. Our program schedules are
listed quarterly on our website clas.ucsb.edu
<http://www.clas.ucsb.edu/>. For your convenience, I am attaching a
summary of our services for referral purposes. Your assistance in
referring students makes a big difference. Last year, CLAS saw a record
7543 students.
*Spring On-line & In-person Enrollment: Instructional Groups and
Academic Skills Workshops*

*Appointments: Academic Skills, ESL & Writing *
* Visit the CLAS office (SRB 3210) or call 805 893-3733.
_CLAS offers 3 types of services:_
1. *Instructional Groups* (instructor and student-driven)
A. Designed for a wide range of introductory economics, engineering,
math, science, statistics, and undergraduate courses. Groups meet 1-2
hours a week.
B. Instructors create lesson outlines to cover key concepts, respond
to student questions, and work with individual learning needs at the
pace of those in attendance.
2. *One-to-one Tutorial Services* (primarily student-driven)
A. Drop-in services are available for economics, foreign language,
math, science, statistics and writing.
B. ESL & Writing tutoring is available by appointment; please call
893-3733 or visit CLAS.
C. CLAS assigns individual tutors to students referred by
Intercollegiate Athletics and the Disabled Students Program, as well as
to students enrolled in selected ESL courses and the Writing Program's
Academic Communities for Excellence classes.
D. Other students seeking private tutoring are given referrals.
3. *Study* *Skills Services*
A. Workshops address topics such as learning styles, exam
preparation strategies, time management, reading comprehension, and
strategies for ESL students.
B. Workshops are also offered for specific course/skill needs upon
faculty, TA or group request. __
C. Students can schedule an individual consultation (893-3733) to
assess their learning style and target their study skills needs.
Appointments focus on reading skills, note taking or exam preparation.
