UCSB Coral Reef Essay Competition:
Put on UCSB Coral Reef Interest Club
Essay Description:
Discuss the relevance of the recent decline in coral reefs (why should
we care). Focus on particular region of the world and provide a
discussion of impacts to this region if the coral reefs were to
perish. Also, present an insightful suggestion as to what steps need
to be taken to remedy the decline in coral reefs. Be creative and
support your argument.
Essays should be no longer than one page single spaced. Include a
cover sheet with contact information, current class level and overall
GPA (confirmation may be requested). Additionally, give a brief
description (½ page or less) of the type of research and/or
conservation that you are interested in participating in.
Materials must be submitted via email to ucsbcric at gmail.com no later
than June 7
The winner will be notified no later than June 13
Recipient(s) will receive $250 award (dependent on available funds),
which must be used to assist in participation in studies or
conservation of coral reef related subject matter.
Allocation of funds is contingent upon approved proposal of spending.
Awarded funds must be used for explicitly approved expenses.
Student must be sophomore or junior standing with a GPA of 3.0 or
better. S/he must be a full time registered UCSB student.
