Sorry for the late notice. . . this just came in and the meeting is today

********************************************************

Informational meeting will be held in LSB 1001 Tuesday April 10th at 7pm.

Hello Pre-health Profession students!

My name is* Brittany Dixon *and I am the Director of Recruitment and
Training for the Clinical Care Extender Volunteer Internship Program at
St. John’s Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Pleasant Valley
Hospital. This program provides students who are thinking about working
in the health care field with the opportunity to gain a unique
experience with the health care field that includes direct patient care
in many different areas of the hospital such as the Emergency room,
Labor and Delivery, medical-surgical unit, Rehabilitation, Mother/Infant
Unit, Peri-Operational Unit, and several others. The volunteer will gain
knowledge on the procedures and type of atmosphere each unit has. We
also have an opportunity for students who are interested in healthcare
administration. Volunteers are given 24 hours of training prior to
volunteering so that they are prepared for any experience they will come
upon as a patient care provider. The Clinical Care Extender Program
allows participants to work with all levels of medical staff to better
understand the dynamics of a hospital environment. While volunteering,
students get direct, hands-on experience and guidance from the staff of
the realities of working in the medical field.

Thank you for your interest in the Clinical Care Extender Volunteer
Internship at St. John’s Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Pleasant
Valley Hospital. Orientation/Interview sessions occur every three
months, and are currently being conducted. Please check our website for
specific dates and times:

_Here are the answers to some of our more frequently asked questions:_

*/What exactly is a Clinical Care Extender?/*

Clinical Care Extenders are volunteer interns who participate in
hands-on patient care or in our Executive branch within the hospital
setting. As a Clinical Care Extender, you will become a valuable member
of the patient care team as you help to bathe, feed, change, comfort and
provide company for hospital patients. In our Executive branch you can
engage in our Leadership Team and then on to our Executive Team while
assisting with our Community Education Department in data analysis. You
will help with a myriad of tasks in a variety of hospital nursing units.
As a Clinical Care Extender, you will gain unparalleled exposure to the
medical field and what it really takes to be a Healthcare Professional.
/
*What time commitments does the program require?*/

The Clinical Care Extender Internship requires a 240 hour commitment.
/If you will not be around for an entire year, you should consider
applying at a later time when you are able to commit a year
uninterrupted./ You will attend a mandatory 3-day training course (24
hours) before serving in the hospital. Clinical Care Extenders serve one
4-hour shift each week for 60 weeks. In just over one year, a Clinical
Care Extender completes 240 hours of volunteer service!
/
*What shift times are available?*/

Shifts are scheduled on a first-come-first-serve basis (we will explain
more about this procedure at the orientation). In most departments,
shifts are available 7 days a week from 7am to 11am, 11am to 3pm, 3pm to
7pm, 7pm to 11pm.

*/What departments do Clinical Care Extenders serve in?/*

Clinical Care Extenders currently serve in 12 departments at St. John’s
Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital: All
Clinical Care Extenders will begin in a basic nursing department for
their first rotation- Medical Surgical Nursing Unit 3South/3North and
for those who want a more intense experience the Acute Care Unit which
is Telemetry and Oncology. After the first rotation, Clinical Care
Extenders may choose to rotate to any other open department (based on
availability, some departments are waitlisted): Emergency Room (St.
John’s Regional), Emergency Department (St. John’s Pleasant Valley),
Mother and Infant Unit, Labor and Delivery, Rehabilitation, Intensive
Care Unit, Coronary Care Unit, Catheter Lab, Diagnostic Imaging
(Radiology), Computerized Tomography (CT), Operating Room (St. John’s
Regional), and the Peri-Op/Operating Room (St. John’s Pleasant Valley).

*/How long is a rotation?/*

Each rotation is 3 months long, which means that a Clinical Care
Extender can complete 4 rotations each year.
*/How can I apply to the Clinical Care Extender Program?/*
