The Cardinale lab is looking for 2-3 undergraduate research assistants to
help with a major laboratory study that will examine how species extinctions
affect water quality in streams and rivers. Specifically, we are
manipulating the number of species of algae in artificial streams to
determine how much biodiversity is required to maximize the uptake of
harmful nutrient pollutants. Students must be able to work between 10 and
20 hours per week, and will be expected to help set up and tend experiments,
identify species under a microscope, and collect/input data. Careful
attention to detail is a must. Prior research experience is helpful, but
not required. We are particularly interested in those who are considering
graduate school and/or a career in environmental science, and who would
benefit from this awesome opportunity to be part of a major research
project.
If you are interested please send a resume along with two references to J.J.
Weis at jweis at lifesci.ucsb.edu. For more information on the Cardinale
research group, please visit our website at
